FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do we use for a bin?
Just use any sturdy cardboard box that can be closed up and used to ship the phones to us once the box is full. You can get a great box at a supermarket without spending any money. Feel free to use the ready made bin label from our Startup Kit page.

Do you also take cell phone chargers and batteries?
No, we do not at this time. However, to make your job easier, you don't have to remove the batteries that are already in the phones. We encourage you to recycle the accessories at your local recycling center. For help locating a recycling center near you, go to earth911.com.

How do we ship the boxes to you?
Just tape them firmly shut, consolidating as much as possible, weigh each box and email us the weight. You will receive an email linking you to your shipping labels online. Follow the instructions for printing out your labels and affix them to your boxes. You can arrange for FedEx pickup online, or call FedEx at 1.800.Go.FedEx (1.800.463.3339) to schedule a pickup, or drop off at your local FedEx location. Ship at your convenience and our expense!

Do you accept all phones?
Yes.

What else do you accept?
We also accept digital cameras, PDA's and laptops.

Do you have an online price list?
No. Unlike our competitors, we do not ask you to qualify your collection against an online list. WE ACCEPT ALL PHONES. Our priority is making the collection process as simple for you as possible.

How do you value the phones and other electronics?
The value of the phones collected is determined by our warehouse staff, based on their make and model, how old a model they are, whether they are digital or analog, how well they work and in what condition they are. With all these variables, it is impossible to estimate what sort of collection your group may get, but our current average is $1.75/non-broken phone. Please consider that WE ACCEPT ALL PHONES. As for the PDA's and digital cameras, they return $1-20, and the laptops $1-50, depending on condition and model. We do not give credit for Mac laptops or earlier than P2 laptops, though we accept all laptops.

What if I just want to donate one or two items and I'm not ready to conduct a collection campaign?
We encourage you to visit recycleforbreastcancer.org and follow the instructions on that site.

How much money do we get per phone?
We pay $1-6 per phone, depending on its model and condition, except for phones that are visibly broken.

When do we get paid?
You will receive a valuation summary by email within 7 days and a check within 30 days of receipt of the phones.

Do we need to separate or catalog the electronics before we send them?
No. Just put everything into boxes, consolidating as much as possible.

Can we do this fund-raising project more than once?
You can do collection campaigns as often as you wish, due to the rate of turnover of cell phone use. If it worked for you once, why not do it again?

What happens to the phones?
Phones are given new life through refurbishing, where they get new faceplates, LCD's, batteries or whatever is needed, and are repackaged and offered into secondary markets such as the pre-paid industry. Those phones that cannot be refurbished are recycled in an environmentally sound manner, according to EPA standards. Click here for a statement of our E-Waste Policy.
