SUCCESS STORIES

Goldman - Humane Society of Saline County, Benton, AR
"After
the tornado, these kittens were hiding out in a concrete block.
They were very scared, but our volunteers were finally able
to coax them out and they are being nursed back by our volunteers.
They came from the Hurricane Creek Trailor park which was very
hard hit. The community there had lots of cats since the area
wasn't large enough for people to have a fenced yard for dogs.
On Saturday, we had a couple that was finally able to return
to their home and found 3 kittens under their trailor. They
brought them into the shelter and recognized one of the
stray cats in our enclosures as the mother. Sure enough when
we put the carrier next to the enclosure the momma &
babies started meowing at each other. When we placed them in
the carrier together, one kitten immediately went to the
momma to nurse and the momma kept licking the others and using
her paws to guide them to nurse. They are all doing very well
(of course we were all in tears when we saw them re-united!)
We are grateful to your program for an easy way for us to raise
funds to help out in rescue situations like these!

"Over
the past two years we have been collecting cell phones and turning
them in for recycling. Not only has this kept these used electronics
from filling up landfills, but the potentially harmful metals
contained in them have been recovered and reused. Some used,
late-model cell phones are able to be refurbished and resold
in a secondary market.
Most importantly,
proceeds from our sale of used electronics have now reached
$320.00. This amount has been added to Grace Roberts’
Sunday School classes’ collections for the purchase of
animals through the “Heifer Project.” The Heifer
Project animals are provided to needy people around the world,
with instructions on successfully raising the animals, and then
sharing the offspring with others. Rather than giving the hungry
a “fish” to feed them for a day, the recipient is
taught to “fish,” to be able to continue to feed
his family, and subsequently others in his community.
Last year
the Sunday School children, many interested adults, and your
used electronics, enabled First Church to purchase an entire
$5,000 ark of animals. An “Ark” includes all the
types of animals available for purchase through the Heifer Project.
From bees, geese, sheep, goats and llamas to water buffalo;
from chickens, ducks, rabbits, and pigs to cattle, all are included
in the Ark and sent where they are most needed.
This year
the children are continuing to follow Jesus’ idea about
feeding the hungry by collecting pennies, nickels, and dimes,
etc., to buy more animals to help feed a needy and hungry world."

Connie
Golden, Advisor - Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), Lakeland
Community College "SIFE
Students began recycling phones with PhoneFund approximately
1 year ago. In that time, we have earned a little over $500.00.
Part of the mission of our team is to partner with our community
and make a difference. Our recycling project has been supported
by our community, and the team has made a difference in the
community by properly disposing of the harmful materials found
in cell phones. The money earned through the project has been
used to fund other projects such as providing seminars on ethics
and entrepreneurship and sponsoring a middle school classroom
in a Newspapers-In-Education Program.
Previously,
we had dealt with two different cell phone recyclers with very
unsatisfactory results. PhoneFund makes it easy to ship our
phones and communication with them is always prompt and helpful.
We are never left wondering if our phones have been received
or if and when we’ll receive our check. We’re looking
forward to another successful cell phone recycling project so
that we can earn the necessary funds to support our team."

Bob
Godin- Maine Children's Cancer Program "Maine's
Elks Lodges have launched a program called Phones to Fight Kids
Cancer. For every cell phone they collect a donation is made
to the Maine Children's Cancer Program. The program seeks not
only to cure cancer but also to support families. So far this
year they have collected close to 2000 phones, raising about
$3500."

Coia - Berea Animal Rescue "Berea
Animal Rescue is a volunteer, non-profit organization that shelters,
rejuvenates and finds homes for homeless animals from the Berea,
Ohio area. We are a "No Time Limit" shelter. All medical bills,
bedding, food and day-to-day supplies are paid for by Berea's
animal Rescue Fund through donations, adoption fees and fund
raising efforts by Volunteers. We have been able to incorporate
our cell phone drive into our other fundraisers by asking our
supporters to bring their cell phones to our shelter, our retail
store "The Barking Cat", or to any of the many events we host
or participate in through out the year. Thanks to Phone Fund
for providing us with an on going fund raiser. It's so easy
- once the word got out, the cell phones started coming in."
